A Good Book For Real Estate Agents

When I got my real estate license, I immediately went to “work” for a well known company. I did this so that I would be trained very well. This happened on Dec. 13th. Starting on this date was stupid on my part…in some ways…because I had to pay dues for that year and then the dues that started in January, too. (My first day of work cost me $1200.) There were no training classes at this time because it was too close to the holidays. So what did I do?

I read everything that the company gave me…policy manual, new agent manual, and skimmed the new agent training manual (because it did not have the answers in it, yet).

But the thing that I found to be really helpful was a little book entitled, “21 Things I Wish My Broker Had Told Me” (2nd edition) by Frank Cook. I found this book online at http://www.dearbornre.com/ (This was the publisher of my text book in prelicensing school).

“21 Things…” helped me to know what questions to ask and whether my Broker-in-charge was doing a good job (he does! …your welcome, Todd!) This book helped me to know what to do first and what I would need to do in the near future. It helped me know what to expect, too. It cleared up my many misconceptions about the real estate industry. (And, BOY, did I have a lot of misconceptions!!!!)

This book contains a lot of humor, making it an easy read! I read it in one day…that’s fast, for me. (I have to understand every word.)

Customer service at Dearborn Real Estate Education was exceptional, as well. There was a problem with missing pages from my book. A diligent young lady named Jessica H. went above and beyond to find me a good copy…because I did not want a refund-I wanted the book! It was that good!

Starting on page 191 of “21 Things I Wish My Broker Had Told Me,” there is a 184 point list of what real estate agents do for their clients. Or you can go to www.reintel.com and click on “transaction list.”

“21 Things I Wish My Broker Had Told Me, Practical Advice for New Real Estate Professionals,” 2nd edition by Frank Cook.

I highly recommend this book. If you have read it, please tell me what you think.
